Spreading Awareness About Non-Surgical Treatments: My Recent Talk at Tiruvallur

I recently had the privilege of speaking at the Joint Registrar Office of Cooperative Societies in Tiruvallur about a topic very close to my heart – how Interventional Radiology (IR) can transform lives through non-surgical treatments.

As I stood before the attentive audience of cooperative society representatives and healthcare professionals, I could see the surprise on many faces when I explained that conditions like uterine fibroids, osteoarthritis knee pain, varicose veins, and thyroid goitre can often be treated without major surgery.

What excites me most about IR treatments is how they allow patients to:

• Avoid large incisions and general anesthesia
• Recover faster and return to normal life sooner
• Preserve organs and bodily functions

During my talk, I shared several real patient stories – like the young woman who kept her uterus thanks to uterine fibroid embolization, or the elderly gentleman who found relief from chronic knee pain through a simple outpatient procedure.

The questions that followed showed me how hungry people are for this knowledge:
“Why don’t more doctors recommend these options?”
“Are these treatments available in our local hospitals?”

This experience reinforced my belief that awareness is the biggest barrier to patients receiving these life-changing treatments. Many people continue to undergo unnecessary surgeries simply because they don’t know alternatives exist.

I left Tiruvallur feeling energized by the participants’ enthusiasm and more determined than ever to keep educating both medical professionals and the public about these minimally invasive options.
